Assam Illegal Coal
Shillong: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the Assam government to file an affidavit on allegations of illegal smuggling of coal out of the state with the help of forged documents from Assam.
The direction was given by the Meghalaya High Court while hearing petitions filed by Champer M. Sangma and Michael T. Sangma in connection with the allegations.
It is alleged that coal mined illegally in Meghalaya is smuggled into Assam and sometimes re-shipped to the state for export to Bangladesh by obtaining fake and fabricated documents in Assam.
“The State of Assam is requested to file an affidavit after preliminary investigation as to whether there can be any basis for the allegations of the petitioners as recorded above.
Awaiting the affidavit or report from the State of Assam. Allow the matter to be heard for three weeks. List on November 14, 2022,” the Meghalaya High Court said.
“In particular, the State of Assam should provide support for the sanctity of the GST payment receipt,” the Meghalaya High Court said.
“Though no credible evidence has been produced so far, the petitioners allege that the 14th respondent in the first case provides coal laundering services by furnishing fabricated documents in support of the material as illegal in the State.
As mined coal has been returned. State with such documents,” he said.
