Nagaland Catholic Choral Festa
KOHIMA: The CNagaland Catholic Choral Festa (CAN) said on Thursday evening that the first Nagaland Catholic Choral Festa will be held on November 5 at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima at 4 pm.
Speaking at a press conference at Christ King Church in Kohima, CAN President Johnny Ruangmei said that out of 20 choirs in the audition round, 9 choirs were shortlisted to compete further in the Choral fiesta. Earlier, auditions were held in the month of August.
He said that the theme of ‘Una Fed Una Voice’, which means ‘One Faith, One Voice’, would be to share the idea that Catholicism is universal, in which any class , color, caste and without any discrimination. Likewise, and that all come under one roof.
The purpose of this event is to spread the message of the unity of the Christian faith. Ruangmei said that this event is just the beginning and hoped that the event will be made part of the Hornbill Festival from next year.The function will be attended by Adviser to Nagaland Chief Minister Abu Meetha as Chief Guest and Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA) Adviser Theja Meru as Chief Guest. Bishop of Kohima Diocese Most Reverend Dr. James Thopal will be the host of the fiesta.
He said that the Coral Festa will be a ‘gala red carpet day’ for Catholics. Admission tickets are categorized for donors, patrons and well-wishers. Ruangmei said the ticket system was introduced to attend the ceremony because Catholics’ abilities are also valued.Out of the 9 choirs, the top five choirs will be selected and each will be given cash prizes. In this regard, NCYM President Dr. Lawrence Kethan said that the winner of Coral Festa will walk away with a cash prize of Rs.5000. 2,00,000 while the second and third position holders will each get Rs. 1,50,000 and Rs.1,00,000 respectively.
