Guwahati: The Center has released Rs 125 crore for Assam from its flood control fund for the current financial year, an official release said on Friday.

Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika met Union Minister Jal Shakti Gajinder Singh Shekhawat in Delhi on Friday and thanked him for his help.
Hazarika also requested Shekhawat to release more funds under the scheme in the coming days so that Assam could be cleared of floods.

He noted that the central funds under this program had been suspended since 2016 due to irregularities committed by the previous government.

The Minister for Water Resources said that due to the “tireless efforts” of Chief Minister Humanta Biswa Sarma, the Ministry of Water Resources has released funds this year.
The release added that the state government was planning to launch a comprehensive project to build ponds near the rivers as part of its initiatives to control river water levels during the monsoon season.
