Imphal: Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal landed at the Imphal airport today, hours after she complained about not being allowed to travel to Manipur.
Swati Maliwal had alleged that the Manipur government had denied her permission to visit the state and interact with survivors of sexual violence.
Maliwal, who was scheduled to visit Manipur on July 23, expressed her disappointment over the decision, citing her genuine intention to provide help and support to victims amid the communal violence rocking the northeastern state.
In her interaction with the Manipur government on July 21, Maliwal had expressed her desire to visit the conflict-hit state after a disturbing video surfaced.
The video shows two women paraded naked by members of rival communities, drawing widespread condemnation and concern.
DCW Chief Event took to Twitter to express her dismay at the denial of her permission and criticized the Manipur state government for taking a U-turn and suddenly denying her permission citing the law and order situation.
Maliwal went ahead with her scheduled visit and landed at Imphal. The DCW chief will interact with the victims of the violence and provide assistance to the families, individuals who have been affected by the May 3, 2023 in the state.
