Imphal: The suspension of internet services on mobile devices in Manipur has been extended till 7.45 pm on November 8, 2023, as a precautionary measure to ensure smooth passage of state administration.
The ban on mobile internet services in Manipur has been extended for another 3 days, which has now been extended till 7:45 pm, the state’s home commissioner, T Ranjing, has said in an order on 8 November
The internet ban began on 3 May 2023, except for two days on 23 and 24 September due to communal violence and misuse of mobile internet in the state.
The enforcement of the internet ban has been extended as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the public interest against the fear that some anti-social elements may use social media to post mass images, hate speeches and hateful video messages can be used for delivery.
An official notification said public sentiments that could have dire consequences.
The ban continued despite an indefinite economic blockade by the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), which entered its third day on Sunday.
ANSAM is enforcing the blockade from 6 pm on November 3, demanding restoration of mobile internet services as per the Memorandum of Agreement with the state government dated October 26, 2023.
Several including Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), Rongmei Naga Students Organization Manipur (RNSOM), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), and Naga Students and Union Chandel (NSUC) Student organizations have supported the agitation called by ANSAM.
