Amid fresh violence ban on internet extended till 5 November

Imphal: The Manipur government on Wednesday, July 5, extended the suspension of internet services till July 10 to prevent the spread of rumours, videos, images and messages, threatening law and order in the ethnic violence-hit northeastern state. The situation can be affected.
The decision came at a time when the Director General of Police in Manipur reported ongoing incidents of violence, assaults, arson and gunfights.
There is a growing fear that anti-social elements may use social media extensively to spread hate speech, hate video messages and incite public unrest, with serious implications for the law and order situation of the state.
Authorities have expressed imminent threats, including loss of life, damage to public and private property, and widespread disruption of public peace and communal harmony.
They are particularly concerned about the circulation of inflammatory content, false rumours, and mobilization of agitators and protesters through various social media platforms, messaging services, and bulk SMS.
Meanwhile, the Manipur state government has ordered the reopening of schools in the conflict-hit state.
On July 5, most schools resumed normal classes after nearly two months of closure. However, despite the government’s efforts, attendance remains dismally low.
The decision to reopen schools has been applauded by parents, students and the teaching community.
They recognize the importance of resuming educational activities, even in the midst of ongoing conflict and the absence of complete peace.
The extended stay at home has left students longing for a chance to reconnect with their friends and teachers, as well as regain a sense of normalcy in their lives.
