Aizawl: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has canceled his scheduled campaign visit to Mizoram, which is due to go to polls on October 30. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been tapped for the prime ministerial post.
However, according to Mizoram BJP media convenor Johny Lalthanpuia, the date of his campaign is undecided.
Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will also hold a public rally in West Phaileng on Monday as part of the party’s campaign.
The move marks the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)’s determined efforts to make a strong showing in Mizoram, a state where it contested 39 seats in the last assembly elections in 2018 but fielded 23 candidates this time has taken off.
BJP has been actively campaigning in Mizoram, with party president JP Nadda releasing the party manifesto a few days ago.
The manifesto promises 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs and, among other promises, to find a solution to the long-standing border dispute with neighboring Assam.
