Assam: Students protest against college principal over alleged vulgar acts with girl student in Lakhimpur
NORTH LAKHIMPUR: Hundreds of students on Thursday staged a massive protest against the principal of North Lakhimpur College for allegedly indecent acts with a girl student of the college.
In an alleged video that has gone viral on social media, principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia is shown making obscene gestures at a female student in a semi-naked state.
The incident triggered a massive reaction in North Lakhimpur on Thursday.
Various organizations including AASU, TMPK, ABVP, NSUI, AJYP and others staged dharna in front of the college gate against Principal Dr. Chetia.
They also burnt effigies of Chetia in North Lakhimpur and demanded his immediate arrest.
The Lakhimpur AASU has also decided to file a case against the principal at the North Lakhimpur police station, accusing him of tarnishing the image of the college.
Lakhimpur ASU has sent a memorandum to the Assam Education Minister demanding the immediate removal of Dr Chetia from the post of North Lakhimpur College Principal.
The student body also asked the DC of Lakhimpur to take charge of the college after the incident and Students protest. The memorandum also accused Dr Chetia of falsifying his academic documents on earlier occasions.
The Lakhimpur district administration deployed a large number of security personnel at North Lakhimpur College on Thursday morning.
