GUWAHATI: At least four people, including a forest staff, were injured when a rhinoceros strayed from the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Gohpur in North Assam’s Biswanath district on Thursday.
A one-horned rhino strayed from the eastern range of the national park under Biswanath Wildlife Division, forest officials said.
The injured have been identified as 62-year-old Rudrabahadur Dorji, 45-year-old Radhika Dorji, 36-year-old Jailash Sahani and 24-year-old Ajijul Hoque.
The injured Ajijul Hoque is an SRPF personnel posted at Gopaljaroni anti-illegal camp in Kaziranga.
“Four people, including a forest official, were attacked by a stray rhinoceros from Kazaranga National Park. The forest officials had to fire in the air to drive away the wild animals,” a forest official said.
All the injured have been admitted to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital (LMCH).
Earlier in the first week of February, a female rhinoceros, which was a fervent stray in the park, had attacked at least four people, including two forest officials.
The rhinoceros was later found dead in a paddy field in Padumuni area of Golaghat district.
