Stop outdoor school activities, state govt said amidst heat wave
Shillong: Amidst the relentless heat wave gripping the entire state, the Meghalaya government issued a notification on Friday, instructing all schools to adhere to strict precautions and guidelines to safeguard the well-being of students and staff.
The directive mandates schools across Meghalaya to refrain from organizing any outdoor activities or sports during the ongoing heat wave.
Furthermore, schools have been instructed to ensure the availability of adequate hydration facilities across their premises, including access to drinking water and shaded areas.
In cases of severe dehydration, immediate transport to the nearest health facility is advised.
Temperature readings as of Friday (April 26) at 12:00 PM stood at 28°C in Shillong, 33°C in Nongpoh, and a sweltering 35°C in Tura.
Given these conditions, the Meghalaya government advised students to stay hydrated by regularly consuming water and bringing their own water bottles.
Additionally, schools have been directed to provide ORS/lemon water in case students experience dehydration.
During the hours between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, schools have been urged to minimize students’ exposure to direct heat.
Moreover, the order prohibits students from walking barefoot inside or near school premises.
