Solidarity bandh of 12-hours on February 8 call by JAC Chief

Sikkim:After much wrangling, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) has finally decided to go for 12 hours, allowing only essential and emergency services from 6 am to 6 pm.

This decision was taken by the Joint Action Committee today after several meetings.

The JAC members and Sikkim BJP president recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought an assurance from the minister whether to organize a bandh or not but for a series of talks. Later, JAC decided to invite the band. All preparations have been made.
JAC chief Santa Pradhan while addressing the presser said, “The band is not against anyone, not against the state and central government, only solidarity bandh.
Pradhan also appealed that volunteers and participants are requested not to indulge in any anti-social activities and observe the bandh peacefully.

When asked if Sikkim is a tourism-based economy because of the many tourist bookings, JAC vice-president Passang Sherpa said, “We want to appeal to our travel association and drivers as well to stay at 6 p.m. Wait till 10 pm and enter only after 6 pm. Rangpo to Sikkim”
Earlier on February 6, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) filed a review petition in the Supreme Court. In a tweet, the Home Ministry said the Government of India reiterated its stand on the sanctity of Article 371F of the Constitution which protects the identity of Sikkim, which should not be undermined.
