Six days after the gruesome firing incident, Assam has lifted travel restrictions for Meghalaya.

Guwahati: Assam on Sunday (November 27) lifted travel restrictions for Meghalaya.

Assam has lifted the travel restrictions to Meghalaya imposed six days ago following the firing incident in Mukroh village along the inter-state border between the two states.
At least six people – five Meghalaya residents and an Assam forest guard – lost their lives in a firing incident at Mukroh village on November 22.

Vehicles from Assam have been allowed to enter Meghalaya since Sunday (November 27).

Police escorts have also been provided to vehicles from Assam wherever required.
After the firing incident at Makroh village near the Assam-Meghalaya border on November 22, the Assam Police had issued an advisory, asking people to avoid traveling to Meghalaya.

The travel advisory was issued after violence erupted in Makroh village early Tuesday after Assam forest guards intercepted a truck loaded with “illegally cut timber”.
The law and order situation in the affected districts of Meghalaya is gradually returning to normal, shops and commercial establishments are open in Shillong and roads are witnessing significant traffic.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, however, remained in force amid heavy deployment of security forces in the disputed area.
