Aizawl: A special court in Aizawl on Wednesday sentenced six people, including the younger brother of Mizoram CM Zoramathanga, to one-year imprisonment in a corruption case.
The six were convicted by special court judge HTC Lalrinchhana (Prevention of Corruption Act) for forging land passes and authority letters to obtain government compensation through fictitious claims.

They have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery with intent to defraud), 471 (using forgery) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). It was told.
However, the court acquitted two other accused – H Lianzela, then Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Aizawl district and current Director of State Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) and Saipum. To former village council president Lalrinsanga – the CBI, which was investigating the case, failed to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The convicts were also asked to pay a fine of Rs 20 lakh each, failing which they will face an additional 10 years in jail.
