Six accused of Bajali corruption case remanded in judicial custody
Guwahati: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court has remanded six suspects in judicial custody in connection with the electricity corruption case. The case, which has been making headlines, is unfolding as the investigation progresses.
The six accused who were sent to judicial custody have been identified as home guard drivers Deepjoy Kalita and Nabir Ahmed, middlemen Sahidul Islam and Kishore Kumar Baruah, former Bajali ASP Gayatri Sonowal and her husband Bobby Singh.
Sources say that these accused will be presented in court again after the period of judicial custody is over.
Earlier today, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested another policeman in connection with a corruption case. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sasanka Das, who is serving at Pattacharkuchi police station, was named as an accused from the initial stages of the case which came to light earlier this month.
He was later detained by the Assam CID along with four other police officers and two home guards. After the arrest of Sasanka Das, a large CID team left its headquarters via Beltola along with the arrested official.
In the proceedings that followed, a substantial CID team led by ASI Sasanka Das searched for evidence related to the case. Their efforts focused on locating a second MacBook, a key piece of potential evidence in the ongoing investigation.
In this operation, the house of the sister-in-law of former Bajali ASP Gayatri Sonowal was searched as well as the residence of a relative at Bhanu Apartment on Uzan Bazar Road. These efforts demonstrate the determination of the authorities to uncover all relevant evidence in the pursuit of justice.
