Dibrugarh: A total of 16 villages and a population of 2403 in two revenue circles of Dibrugarh were affected due to heavy hailstorm that wreaked havoc on Wednesday afternoon.
In Dibrugarh West, three villages of Kowmari, Dihing Koiborta and Simalguri were affected while 13 villages were affected in Moran. Niz Khowang Dumorhula, Chenimari Block, No. 1 Burikhowang, Deori Gaon, Dolonikur Kumar, Goroimari Village, No. 2 Ahom Village, No. 2 Konwar Village, No. 3 Dehing Village, Padumoni Nagaon, Niz Khowang Betoni, No. 2 BuriKhowang and No. 3 Bharalibari village in Moran.
A total of 16 villages and a population of 2403 were affected by the hailstorm in Dibrugarh on Wednesday afternoon. As per reports, 481 mud houses and 58 pukka houses have been partially damaged,” said an official.
According to reports, the hailstorm continued for an hour causing considerable damage to paddy crops and vegetable fields.
Residents’ houses were also impacted, as the intense barrage of hailstones created multiple holes in their roofs.
The hailstorm caused widespread damage to property and crops in the affected villages. The hailstones were reportedly up to 2 inches in diameter and caused widespread power outages. The district administration has sent relief materials to the affected families and is assessing the damage.
