Guwahati: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Meghalaya Police apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian facilitators at a checkpoint.
The operation was part of heightened security measures along the Indo-Bangladesh border due to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.
The apprehended individuals were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
This operation is a result of the BSF’s multi-tier dominance strategy to secure the border, officials said.
In recent operations, the BSF has also seized cattle and phenedyl bottles from smugglers and apprehended 11 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into India from various borders, including West Bengal, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that following the recent turmoil in Bangladesh, there have been several reports of Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter India illegally.
However, the security forces have now increased the security measures on all border routes to prevent all possible illegal entries.
