Agartala: In an effort to push for the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language, the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), a component of the North East Students’ Organization (NESO), has announced a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Tripura on August 28.
TSF General Secretary, Humulu Jamatia while addressing the press said, “The Twipra Students Federation (TSF) has called for a 12-hour statewide strike (shutdown) on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 6:00 am. 6 pm. to :00 p.m., demanding the immediate implementation of the Roman script for the Kokborok language and its inclusion in the state curriculum. This demand has been pending for 50 years.”
The Jamatia disclosed that on 21st June 2023 they submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura. However, the government is yet to respond to their persistent pleas. Furthermore, they have demanded the Government of India to expedite the introduction of the 125th Amendment Bill in the Parliament and speedy implementation of the same in the state of Tripura stressing its importance for the welfare of the people of the state.
Clarifying the scope of the bandh, the Jamatia noted that essential services like ambulances and milk vans would be exempted from the bandh. He made an impassioned appeal to the people of the state to lend their support and cooperation to the cause.
