Imphal: The Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) organized a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, today from 1 PM to 5 PM. Simultaneously, a similar protest was held in Manipur, jointly organized by the Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee, Image Meira, and the Women’s Wing of the Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee at Hao Ground, Chinga Mathak, Imphal East. Another demonstration took place in Bangalore.
The DMCC is demanding justice and decisive action from the Government of India regarding the ongoing conflict in Manipur. The suffering inflicted upon the civilians of Manipur over the past year is both profound and heartbreaking.
“It is deeply disheartening to witness the continued negligence and indecisiveness from the office of the Prime Minister and the Government of India, who have yet to restore normalcy to our state,” stated the DMCC.
“We are here not just to protest but to insist on accountability, transparency, and action. The time for inaction has long passed.”
The DMCC calls for an end to the central government’s perceived partiality towards Kuki militants. They emphasize the need for impartial justice and fair treatment for all affected communities in Manipur.
The DMCC demands the removal of the “buffer zone” established by central forces, arguing that it undermines the spirit of coexistence essential for peace in Manipur.
They believe dismantling this zone is crucial to rebuilding trust and unity among the people. It also urges the government to expedite the resettlement of internally displaced people (IDPs) to their original homes, stating that the delay has prolonged their suffering and uncertainty.
During the protest in Delhi, several prominent speakers addressed the gathering, including Dr. N. Bobo, DMCC Spokesperson; Haobijam Jiten, Convenor of Liklam Ngakpa; Dr. Ashiho Dali; Dr. Seram Rojesh, Convenor of DMCC; Advocate Bhabu Pratap, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India; Advocate Balraj Malik, Supreme Court, and Amrik Singh Pahwa.
The demonstrations highlighted the collective call to the Government of India to cease siding with Kuki militants and to foster peace, normalcy, and peaceful coexistence among the communities in Manipur.
