Security forces recovered huge cache of arms in Churachandpur

Imphal: In a successful series of joint operations, security forces in Manipur have unearthed a large cache of arms, ammunition and munitions in Churachandpur district, an area hit by recent violence.
According to an official report, the operations were carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday based on specific intelligence about the presence of arms and ammunition in the district.
On January 30, a joint team of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Manipur Police launched a cordon and search operation in Thoroilok village. A 9 mm pistol, a PT 303 rifle, a 12 mm bore gun, an improvised mortar, and various war stores were recovered in the operation.
Similarly, on January 31, in an intelligence-led operation, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police discovered a significant cache of arms, explosives and munitions near Songpi village in Churachandpur district.
The items recovered include two 9 mm carbine machine guns, one shotgun, one Point 22 automatic rifle, one 9 mm pistol, nine single barrel rifles, two improvised mortars, ammunition and additional war stores.
All the recovered arms and ammunition have been immediately handed over to the Manipur Police.
