
Security forces recover illegal areca nuts worth of 3 Crore
Aizawl: Security forces in Mizoram have seized an illegal consignment of areca nuts worth over Rs 3 crore.
Troops of the Assam Rifles seized a consignment of illegal nuts in Mizoram’s Champhal district.
Assam Rifles troops recovered and seized 536 bags of areca nuts in Mizoram’s Champai district.
Assam Rifles troops “recovered 536 bags of illegal nuts worth Rs 3.0016 crore” at Zotlang in Mizoram’s Champai district.
The seizure was made on Wednesday (05 April).
An Assam Rifles statement said the operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department Champhai based on specific information.
The statement added: “The seized consignment has been handed over to the Customs Department Champai for further legal action.”
“Smuggling of illegal nuts is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram,” the statement added.
