
Security breach in Amritpal Singh case, jail Superintendent arrested
Guwahati: In a major development, the Assam Police arrested Dibrugarh Central Jail Superintendent Nipen Das on Thursday (March 07) night.
The arrest has been made in connection with the recovery of objectionable materials from the cells of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and nine of his associates in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail.
Dibrugarh Additional SP Sizal Agarwal confirmed the arrest of Nipen Das.
Das was arrested under Section 13 (1) B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of the Assam Jail Code.
Objectionable material including a mobile phone and a spy camera were seized from the possession of Amritpal Singh, who has been lodged in Dibrugarh jail since February 17.
Assam Police has taken action against Dibrugarh Central Jail Superintendent Nipen Das based on a case registered in connection with the incident.
Notably, nine associates of Amritpal Singh, who were also involved in the case, were booked under the National Security Act (NSA). Those facing NSA charges include Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
