Guwahati: The result of this year’s Assam secondary examination, which was mired in controversy after the question papers of two subjects were leaked, was declared on Monday and more than 70 per cent candidates cleared it.
Boys outperformed girls in the exam, with an overall pass rate of 72.69 percent. The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) said the pass percentage for boys was 74.71, while that of girls was 70.96.
The overall pass percentage this year was better than that of 2022, when 56.49 per cent candidates cleared the exam.
Hridam Thakuria of Sankardev Sishu Niketan in Dhekiajuli topped the merit list by securing 596 marks out of a total of 600.
Congratulating the successful candidates, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted “Congratulations to all the #ExamWarriors who have done so well. For those unhappy, remember that one exam cannot make or break your career.”
“Success is the result of perseverance and hard work. See your result as a beginning and not as an end. You have miles to go, it’s just a small step,” he added.
Wishing the successful students all the best, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu wrote on the micro-blogging site: “HSLC 2023 results are out. Out of 415324 301880 (72.69%) candidates passed. Congratulations to all of them. Unsuccessful candidates should not despair. Now start preparing for the next exam.”
The board exam held in March was mired in controversy as the question papers of Mathematics and Modern Indian Language and English were leaked. This had forced SEBA to postpone both the exams.
The CID had arrested more than 30 people in the case, including several students, who were assigned the task of investigating the leak.
Two teachers, Pranab Dutta and Kumud Rajkhowa, were identified as the masterminds and arrested.
