
Sarat Barkotoky Ex-minister and Congress leader passes away
Guwahati: Former Assam minister and senior Congress leader Sarat Barkotoky passed away at the age of 88 at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati on Monday morning.
He was hospitalized in August due to age-related ailments.
Sarat Barkotoky was an experienced politician and served for several terms as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Sonari constituency.
He also held various ministerial portfolios including education and PWD in the state government.
Barkotoky was born on 1 March 1935 in the village of Mathurapur in Sonari, Assam.
He studied at Guwahati University, where he received his BA degree in 1957 and a B.T. degree in 1960.
He started his career in politics in the early 1970s.
