‘Resolving border disputes’ limited to ‘AFSPA withdrawal’: PM Modi highlights government’s ‘achievements’ in North East
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Assam on Thursday, highlighted the ‘achievements’ of BJP governments in the northeastern states.
PM Narendra Modi highlighted a number of important issues that have been plaguing the northeastern states for decades, “on which work began only after 2014”.
Key issues highlighted by PM Narendra Modi include initiating the process of resolving border disputes between the northeastern states, the limited withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and mainstreaming militant groups.
Talking about the process of resolving border disputes between the northeastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya for signing border agreements to resolve disputes in six areas of dispute.
He was addressing a rally at Defoe in Kirby Anglong district of Assam.
PM Narendra Modi also highlighted the “success of the BJP’s double-engine government” in the limited withdrawal of AFSPA from many parts of the North East.
The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has recently been repealed in 23 districts of Assam. We have removed AFSPA from many areas in the North East as a result of better law and order, “said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi also highlighted the “success” of the central government and the governments of the northeastern states in bringing militant groups to the negotiating table.
“In September last year, a number of Karbi Anglong organizations joined the cause of peace and development. The Bodo Agreement has also opened new doors for lasting peace,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Talking about the pace of development in the North East, PM Narendra Modi said: “After 2014, there was development in the North East.”
“Today, when one visits the Northeast and observes rapid development, they too feel proud. Let’s face it, “said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
