
Red alert issued due to Assam floods in several districts till 22 June
Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday (June 19) issued a red alert for several districts of Assam till June 22.
The IMD has predicted very heavy to very heavy rain in several districts of Assam till June 22.
According to the IMD, Assam districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta and Bongaigaon will receive very heavy rain in the next few days.
On the other hand, heavy rainfall is also expected in Dhubri, Kamrup, Nalbari, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Goalpara and Karimganj districts of Assam.
Assam has been experiencing heavy rains for the past one week due to which several villages, towns and farm lands have been submerged.
The floods have badly affected more than 33,000 people in 12 districts of Assam.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Lakhimpur has been the most affected with 25,275 people, followed by Dibrugarh with 3,857 people and Tinsukia with 2,666 people.
2600 houses have also been damaged in nine districts of Assam due to flood.
In Assam, around 60,000 animals were also swept away by floodwaters.
At present, 142 villages in Assam are under flood water and 1,510.98 hectares of crop area has been damaged.
