Record polling turnout of 80% against 60 constituencies in Tripura

Agartala: Polling in 60 constituencies in Tripura ended at 4 pm on Thursday, the Election Commission said.

According to the EC, around 80 per cent voting was done in the state.
Tripura witnessed a high-voltage battle for the 60-member House for which voting began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm across 3,337 polling stations.

The state had 28.13 lakh registered voters who decide the fate of 259 candidates.

According to ECI, meticulous planning, thorough reviews, heavy presence of Central Armed Police (CAPF) personnel helped ensure largely violence-free and fair Tripura Assembly elections.
“Compared to 168 repolls in the state in the 2019 general elections to the Lok Sabha, today’s polls in 60 assembly constituencies in Tripura have been largely peaceful and no repolls have taken place so far. Minor instances of violence have been reported locally. The teams noticed immediately,” EC said.

The polling panel also said that strict vigilance at inter- and intra-national borders by enforcement agencies of neighboring states also helped in sealing borders and curbing smuggling movements during the polling period.
“A twenty-five-fold increase has been recorded in the seizure of Rs 44.67 crore this time as compared to the previous assembly elections of 2018 where it was Rs 1.79 crore,” the EC added.
As part of the Commission’s initiative to provide a comfortable experience to women voters, 97 all-women polling stations were set up with women polling staff including women security personnel.

The commission also provided home voting facilities for the elderly and persons with disabilities (PwD) voters for the first time.
