New Delhi: The number of fake Rs 500 notes has increased by 14.4 per cent to 91,110 in 2022-23 compared to last year.
This was stated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its annual report released on May 30.
On the other hand, the number of fake currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination decreased to 9,806, the RBI report said.
“Compared to the previous year, fake currency of Rs 20 and Rs 500 (new design) have increased by 8.4 per cent and 14.4 per cent respectively,” RBI said.
The RBI report said, “There has been a decline of 11.6 percent in fake currency of Rs 10, 100 and 2000.
“During 2022-23, of the total fake Indian currency notes (FICNs) found in the banking sector, 4.6 per cent were found in the Reserve Bank and 95.4 per cent in other banks,” RBI noted in its report.
