Ranjit Bora murder case main accused killed in Police encounter

Guwahati: Shah Alam Talukdar , the main accused in the Ranjit Bora murder case, was killed in police firing on Friday night.

Police have not revealed much about the incident but sources have confirmed that the accused was killed last night. His body has been kept at the GMCH mortuary. While he is reported to have been killed in an “encounter”, there is no information on how and where the incident took place.
According to some reports, he was hit by two bullets in the chest.

An official statement from the police is still awaited.

The accused had earlier escaped from Satgaon police custody on Thursday night.
Talukdar , the main accused of Purabi Dairy Distributor, escaped from the police when he was being taken by the Satgaon police to Guwahati’s Botahghuli area for a search operation.

According to police, he was handcuffed when he escaped from custody.
A section of concerned citizens have raised questions as to how the accused can escape from the police in such a critical case. Some people have questioned the inability of the police to control crime and even to keep an arrested person in their custody.
Earlier on February 10, Alam had tried to kill himself in the lock-up of Dispur police station in Guwahati.

Shah Alam was the prime accused in the case and is a resident of the Punjab region where Ranjit Bora was killed.

According to reports, Shah Alam tried to kill himself with the sharp edges of the bucket. He tried to cut his nerve at the wrist.
Shah Alam was among the six accused in the case. Five of the six have already been arrested.

Purabi Diary distributor Ranjit Bora was shot dead inside his car while he was on his way to deposit money at a bank in Guwahati.

The incident took place near Silpagram on Panjbari Road in Guwahati, Assam.
