Ramdev’s 2 TV channels have sparked controversy in Nepal.
Controversy has erupted in Nepal after two television channels promoted by yoga guru Ramdev went unregistered.
During a function on Friday, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba launched two channels – Aastha Nepal TV and Patanjali Nepal TV – in the presence of Ramdev, Acharya Bal Krishna and other leading leaders of major political parties.
Nepali law prohibits foreign investment in the media sector. We have not received any request for registration of these two television channels, “said Gogon Bahadur Himal, Director General, Department of Information and Broadcasting.
We have formed a research team to study the registration of television channels. We will take action if they start broadcasting without prior approval.
According to reports, Patanjali has invested in two channels where Ramdev and Acharya Bal Krishna are the main promoters.
According to Nepali law, foreign investment in media and film is not allowed.
But if any foreign television channel needs to operate from Nepal, it must meet all the required legal and other procedures.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Deuba had assured that he would provide land to Patanjali for medical purposes.
Both channels were part of the Patanjali Group’s latest project.
