Rainfall in parts of Assam to continue till June 20

Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to moderate rainfall in the northeastern state of Assam during the next 48 hours.

The IMD has said that several parts of Assam are likely to receive heavy to moderate rainfall till June 20.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over Northeast India.

The IMD informed that northeastern states – Meghalaya and Sikkim are also likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next few days.
“Isolated heavy to very heavy rain with light/moderate rain at most places over Northeast India and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 5 days,” the IMD said.

It added: “Isolated very heavy rain is also likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Assam and Meghalaya during June 18-20.”
Moreover, Guwahati, the capital of Assam, is also likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next few days.

On Monday, the IMD has predicted a substantial increase in rainfall, with 76 mm expected.
Assam’s Guwahati is likely to receive 48 mm of rain during Tuesday.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Assam’s Guwahati have issued an alert after rain is forecast in the city in the next few days.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has mobilized teams to deal with any possible emergency situation arising out of the heavy rains.

The GMC has also advised city residents to avoid venturing out during rains, keep emergency numbers handy and stay tuned to local news channels for updates and instructions.
