GUWAHATI: Rain starts again in Assam , For most northeastern states, a drier-than-normal August resulted in their monsoon rainfall figures falling short of the seasonal average. But now, the recovery process is set to begin immediately, with the region expected to begin September on a very wet note.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread isolated heavy rains (64.5 mm-115.5 mm), thundershowers and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Light to moderate rain is predicted. Over the next five days Rain starts again — Thursday through next Monday (September 1-5).

Similar conditions are expected in sub-Himalayan West Bengal (SHWB) and adjoining sub-divisions of Sikkim during this five-day forecast period.

Additionally, isolated very heavy rains (115.5 mm-204 mm) over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday to Saturday (September 1-3) and Friday and Saturday (September 2-3) over SHWB and Sikkim.

Between morning and evening hours on Wednesday (August 31), the IMD recorded rain and thundershowers at several places over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and few places in Assam and Meghalaya.
