Imphal: Expressing concern after Mizoram-based organizations urged the Mizoram-based Meitei community to leave their state, civil society organizations called on both the Manipur and Mizoram governments to take necessary safeguards to protect Meitei in Mizoram.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur Addressing the media during a press conference organized jointly by All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) and All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) on July 22, AMUCO President, Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, said that his Mizoram-based organization has branched out to more than 10 states.
Government of Mizoram and Manipur should take all measures to protect Meitei living in Mizoram to prevent any untoward incident.
It is sad that the Mizoram-based organization has urged the Mizoram-based Meitei community to leave their state. Such a statement has created tension and anxiety in the Meitei community.
We are really concerned about the people of Manipur staying out there in Mizoram,” he said, adding that if the conflict in Manipur spills over into Mizoram, the unrest could spread to other states.
Nando said that he would try to approach the civil society organizations of Mizoram and plead for the safety of Meitei people.
