Protest on Modi calm people break transistor during 'Mann ki Baat'

Imphal: People of Manipur have registered their protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the ongoing violence and destruction in the northeastern state.

On Sunday June 18, people in various parts of Manipur broke transistors during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” programme.
People smashed transistors during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s weekly radio program “Mann Ki Baat” as a protest against the silence on the Manipur violence.

The protesters also raised slogans against the Prime Minister and the Manipur government as a protest against the ongoing violence in the state.
It should be noted that during PM Modi’s radio program, he failed to say a single word on the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Meanwhile, Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge also mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘silence’ on Manipur.
“You (PM Narendra Modi)’s ‘Man Ki Baat’ should have included ‘Manipur Ki Baat’ earlier, but in vain. The Congress president said that the situation in the border state is critical and deeply troubling.

The Congress chief added: “You (Modi) have not spoken a single word. You did not chair a single meeting. You have not yet met any all-party delegation.Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Modi government at the Center is sleeping while Manipur is burning.

Kharge also said: “It seems that your government does not consider Manipur a part of India. This is unacceptable.”
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh also criticized the Prime Minister, saying “another ‘Mann ki baat’ but ‘Maun’ (silence) on Manipur.”

“The Prime Minister patted himself on the back for India’s great capabilities in disaster management. It was completely man-made (actually self-inflicted) about the humanitarian disaster that Manipur is facing,” Ramesh said.
He added: “There is no peace appeal from him yet. The PM-CARES fund is a non-heard but does the PM care for Manipur too is the real question.”

It may be noted that Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 following large-scale violence following clashes between two communities in the state.

More than 100 people have been killed and thousands displaced in the 45 days of violence in the northeastern state of Manipur.
