The protesters demanded the security forces to return the guns seized from the village volunteers. Notably, police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the people that stormed the Sekta Police Outpost following the seizure of seven guns from Sekta by a combined team of police and paramilitary forces in a search operation.
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the protest, a woman said that the locals of Sekta strongly condemned the act of seizing guns used by village volunteers in defending against the “Kuki aggression”. She went on to allege that Kuki militants have been attacking the Meitei villages in the periphery anytime they want.
Urging the government and the security forces to conduct operations in hill districts and seize arms used by Kukis as well, the woman asked the security forces to give back the guns that were seized from Sekta.
