Imphal West: The protesters took out a mass rally on Tuesday, demanding that the culprits be booked and the whereabouts of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit, who have been missing since July 6, be traced.
After two students went missing, the locals of Takyel Kolom Leikai are pressing the government and concerned authorities to trace the missing students.
However, the state police are yet to allegedly find any clues even though a CCTV footage showed them heading towards Nambol in Bishnupur district on the morning of July 6.
Linthoingambi and Hemanjit recently graduated from Tamphasana Higher Secondary School and Kindergarten School respectively.
Before the rally began, protesters gathered at a community hall in Takyel Kolom Leikai,, Imphal West.
Ngasepam Bimola, a protester, told the media that the two students were missing since July 6 and after the family filed a case, Hemanjit’s last mobile location was found at Lamdan in Churachandpur district, which is one A Kuki-dominant area.
She said that the state government should trace the whereabouts of the two missing students.
She added that the state government should deploy additional forces and trace the two missing students even though the area from which they went missing is a dangerous place due to the ongoing unrest.
“We want peace and the central government should take necessary steps to bring the situation back to normal in Manipur or else many more students may fall victim to the current conflict,” Bimola appealed.
The rally started from the community hall of Takyel Kolom Leikai with placards that read ‘Book Kuki terrorists’, ‘Why is the government silent’, ‘Government trace the two missing students’. , “Catch the criminals” and others were listed.
Manipur State Police stopped the rally at Tera Bazar and six of the delegates were allowed to present a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh. Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
