Protest by NSF temporarily suspended, demands for justice

KOHIMA: The Naga Students Federation (NSF) on Tuesday evening suspended the ongoing dharna protest demanding the state government to book the culprits involved in the destruction of the Naga Club building.

The decision was taken during an emergency consultative meeting of NSF seniors held at the Angami Public Organization (APO) conference hall in Kohima. Even as the protest has been ‘temporarily’ suspended, the federation said it would continue to push for speedy justice.
After the meeting, the NSF reiterated that it would not recognize an unnecessary group of individuals who claim to be the leaders and sole owners of the club, “which the NSF is protecting as its protectors.”
“The present Naga Club, as we know it, was recently formed by some vested interests by inducting the descendants of the original members of the Naga Club,” the NSF said.

During the meeting, it was decided to put in the public domain for the Naga people whether there is a need to revive the Naga Club and whether the club is still relevant in the present context.
“The Naga people should collectively decide the fate of the Naga Club and not be misled by stories which are barely half true. Every tribal hohu should come together under one roof if need be and make the Naga Club a reality.” Fate should be decided. NSF will extend our full cooperation and support to achieve this goal,” the student body said.
It was also decided that NSF would agree if the club was reorganized with a collective mandate from the people of Nagaland.

“Its ideology and principles should be based on the contents of the memorandum submitted by the then Naga Club to the Simon Commission in 1929”.
The seniors and members attending the meeting also decided to recommend the existing officials of NSF to resume normal functioning of the NSF office by setting up a temporary venue till May 31.
