KOHIMA: At a time when the ongoing Naga peace talks have stalled, reports have surfaced that the Government of India is considering incorporating the Naga constitution – the Hizb-o – into the Indian constitution.
Moreover, reports also claim that the Center has agreed to a civic and cultural flag for the Nagas.
“The Hizb would be included in the Indian Constitution by introducing a bill in Parliament. As for the flag, it will be used only for civil and cultural functions, but not for any official function.
Meanwhile, the same report also stated that Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y. Peyton has informed that the Naga political issue should be resolved before the March 2023 assembly elections in the state.
The Center is clear that the country cannot have two constitutions and two flags. The NSCN-IM is stuck on the demand for a separate flag and constitution,” Nagaland deputy CMY Patton reportedly said.
