GUWAHATI: Pressure groups in Meghalaya on Saturday burnt effigies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Shillong as part of the “Save Honey Trap Mission” to kill five civilians in the atrocity.

Activists of pressure groups also protested near CM Conrad Sangam’s official residence in Shillong.

The protesters strongly condemned the alleged failure of the Centre, Meghalaya and Assam governments to resolve the long-pending border dispute.

Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) general secretary Roy Kapar Sanrem said that the dastardly firing incident on November 22 was a result of the apathy of the Center and the Assam and Meghalaya governments in resolving the inter-state border dispute.

“The heinous firing incident occurred because of the lack of seriousness on the part of the three governments to resolve the border dispute,” the HYC leader told reporters.

On the other hand, Meghalaya has extended the suspension of internet services in seven affected districts for another 48 hours from 10.30 am on Saturday.
However, the law and order situation in the affected districts of Meghalaya is slowly returning to normal, with shops and commercial establishments opening in Shillong and roads seeing significant traffic.

Barring a few stray incidents like tire burning on the road, no major incidents were reported in Shillong in the last 24 hours, a police officer said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, however, remained in force amid heavy deployment of security forces in the disputed area.
