Shillong: Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Shillong, Meghalaya on Sunday, East Khasi Hills District District Magistrate (IAS) Isawanda Laloo, has banned the use of drones and other micro-light aircraft within 2 km. . Radius of J N Complex, Polo Ground, Shillong.
An order under Section 144 Cr.PC was also issued on Thursday and it has come into effect with immediate effect. Violation of the order will be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“Flight of drones and other microlight aircraft and similar activities are likely to cause disruption, pose a threat to the oncoming VVIPS and endanger lives of the public at large. Therefore, Precautions need to be taken to ensure safety and security of VVIPs and audience attending the program at JN Complex, Polo,” said the District Magistrate.
PM Narendra Modi will visit Shillong on December 18 to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
