Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday (November 19) to inaugurate the state’s first greenfield airport near Itanagar.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh is being seen as an important step towards promoting connectivity in the Northeast region.
“In an important step to boost connectivity in the Northeast, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh – ‘Donipolo Airport, Itanagar’,” a statement issued by the PMO said.
Developed at a cost of over Rs 640 crore, the airport will improve connectivity and act as a catalyst for tourism and economic activities there.
With a 2300 meter runway, the airport is suitable for all weather operations.
The airport terminal is a modern building, promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and resource recycling.
During his visit to the northeastern state, the Prime Minister will also dedicate the 600 MW Kaming Hydro Power Station to the nation.
Developed at a cost of over Rs 8,450 crore and covering an area of over 80 km in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, the project will make the state electricity surplus, benefiting the National Grid in terms of grid stability will arrive and integration, the statement added.
He added that the project will play a major role in fulfilling the country’s commitment to increase adoption of green energy.
