New Delhi; Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an authority visit to Lumbini in Nepal on May 16 on the event of Buddha Purnima, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.
Modi is visiting the adjoining country at the greeting of Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
It will be Prime Minister Modi’s fifth visit to Nepal starting around 2014.
“At Lumbini, the state head will visit the consecrated Mayadevi sanctuary to offer petitions. The head of the state will likewise convey a location at a Buddha Jayanti occasion coordinated by the Lumbini Development Trust under the aegis of the Government of Nepal,” the MEA said.
Independently, the head of the state will partake in the “shilanyas” (establishment stone laying) function of a middle for Buddhist culture and legacy in a plot having a place with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), New Delhi inside the Lumbini Monastic Zone, it said.
Both the state leaders will hold a respective gathering.

“It highlights the common civilisational legacy of individuals of the two nations,” it said in a proclamation.
