Imphal: A freedom-fighter of the banned People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) was arrested on Friday after setting up a mobile check post with checking and searches at Khewa Phuju Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district, an official said on Saturday.
A joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police Commandos claimed to have seized an identity card issued by the RPF/PLA authority and a program chart of PLA Foundation Day celebrations, a Defense Wing statement said.
The arrested freedom-fighter has been identified as Army No. 337 rank self-styled Captain Name Lanbilung Kamei alias Restafen (35), hailing from Neikalong Thangmeiband in Imphal West district, the statement said.
Based on reliable information, joint columns of 4 Assam Rifles and Special Police Commandos of Imphal East launched an operation in the general area of Khewa Phuju Leikai in Imphal East district on Friday.
The statement said that the operation was launched under the guidance of the Inspector General, Headquarters, Assam Rifles (South).
The operation party set up a mobile check post and during the checking and search of the arrested self-styled Captain Lanbilung Kamei @ Restafen, a suspect of the banned organization RPF/PLA.
During the on-site verification/investigation, the individual confirmed his identity, the statement said.
The statement added that the arrested person has been handed over to Sagolmang Police Station along with the seized items for further necessary legal action against him.
