Party leaders and workers of BJP feel unsafe currently in Manipur

Manipur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers in Manipur have expressed deep concern over the growing violence, saying they are no longer safe even inside Manipur. This worrisome situation was brought to the attention of visiting Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai and BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra by BJP Manipur State Secretary Paokam Haokip.
Highlighting the dire situation faced by party members inside Manipur, Haokip asserted that the ongoing violence has made it difficult for BJP leaders and workers to work together. Despite their shared commitment to the welfare of the people under the BJP banner, the current debacle in BJP-ruled Manipur has made them insecure.
Haokip specifically pointed out that even BJP leaders and activists from the Kuki community face severe threats while performing their duties. He emphasized the important contribution made by BJP members including ministers, MLAs, thousands of workers and activists of the Kuki community, who are working tirelessly for the betterment of all people.
Expressing his disappointment, Haokip lamented that even the party president and the chief minister had failed to ensure his safety. Consequently, he said he was reluctant to return to interior Manipur to continue his work for the party.
Citing his personal experience, Haokip revealed that as Secretary of State, he narrowly escaped an attack on his life, further underscoring the gravity of the situation.
During the meeting, Haokip urged the visiting central leaders to consider alternative arrangements, such as setting up a separate administration, to ensure peaceful functioning of Kuki community BJP leaders and workers.
He also expressed the belief that the implementation of Article 356, which deals with the imposition of President’s Rule, could solve half the problems and pave the way for the start of the peace process.
Moreover, BJP Sudder Hills president Thangjamang Kipgen expressed his grievances and mentioned the devastating impact of the crisis on his village Bongbal Khulan, which was completely razed to the ground.
He appealed to the central leaders to establish permanent security checkpoints at strategic locations in Bongbal Khullen area to enhance security and restore confidence in the administration.
Kipgen emphasized the highly sensitive nature of the Bongbal Khullen area and expressed the community’s preference for the presence of the Assam Rifles, paramilitary forces and the army, as they have lost confidence in the state forces.
He also noted that the current crisis in Manipur has witnessed criminal activities followed by unprecedented incidents of looting and dacoity.
