Parthib Gogoi from Assam to play for northeast united FC in ISL

Guwahati: Over the past decade, the Indian Super League (ISL) has ignited the dreams of countless young talents aspiring to compete at the highest level. 20-year-old sensation Parthib Gogoi from North East United FC is the latest rising star in this aspirational league.
Hailing from Assam, Gogoi’s football journey began as a fan at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, supporting the Highlanders. Little did he anticipate donning his jersey and playing for them in the ISL.
“Playing for North East United FC is a dream come true for me. It’s a big thing for me. My parents dreamed for both of us brothers (Pragyan Gogoi and he) to play in the same team. Whenever “The fans call my name, it motivates me to do better. Because I used to be one of those fans and watch our club’s matches. So, it’s a beautiful feeling and experience altogether,” Gogoi said during a recent conversation.
Gogoi’s confidence is growing as he eyes the upcoming ISL 2023-24 season. He strongly believes the Highlanders will be the underdogs who surprise stronger opponents.
Their 3-0 win at home to Chennaiyin FC is a testament to their potential, and the young winger will be hoping for more impressive performances in the coming months.
On an individual level, Parthib has already equaled his goalscoring record from last season, with three goals in the current campaign.
“I have said that we are a surprise package and we are going to surprise a lot of teams. We will continue to give our 100% in all games. I am very happy with my performance. I’m just focusing on the next match.
Coach is encouraging me to just keep playing well and not to give up anytime soon. I would like to thank all the support staff for their help. Without which I cannot perform so well. I give all the credit to them.
I was injured during the offseason. I was in recovery for most of the time. As soon as I recovered, I started working on my shooting skills. I increased my fitness level.
When the pre-season started, the coach instructed me to work on some factors and I started developing them and I am continuing to work on them,” he added.
While Parthib Gogoi’s star is on the rise, his head coach, Juan Pedro Benali, is cautiously optimistic about the youngster’s future. Benali emphasizes that Gogoi is in the early stages of his career and has a lot to learn and improve before reaching his full potential.
He urged the fans to be patient and avoid putting too much expectation on the young talent.
“Let me tell you something very important. This gentleman here (Parthib) is a very young man. He is just starting here. We have steps to go. We are not on the fourth step without doing the first three.
Give him time and he will be a great player. But, if we rush, we will lose it,” the strategist explained. However, Parthib’s progress in translating promise into performance will be closely monitored by the entire footballing community this season.
