Itanagar: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday virtually launched the official website of the Parshuram kund festival and also released the festival logo and a promotional video compiled by the Lohit district administration.
The website will provide all information and logistical support to visitors and pilgrims coming to take a dip in the Kund, which is believed to wash away all sins during the festival.
Also known as the Kumbh of the Northeast, this festival will be celebrated from January 12 to 16.
Appreciating the Lohit district administration for the elaborate arrangements and services offered online and offline, Khandu said, “This time we expect about 1.5 lakh pilgrims during the festival.”
“The district administration of Lohat has done an extraordinary job in improving road connectivity and other facilities for the smooth conduct of the festival. I commend the officials for promoting the festival in such an organized and grand manner. ”
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the official website launched for the festival would enable the administration to manage the five-day fest effectively and ensure a better travel and stay experience for the tourists.
It is believed that a dip in the holy water of Parshuram Kund washes away all sins. Thousands of devotees visit the holy shrine of Parshuram every year in Tezu.
Under the central government’s Prasad scheme, the Kund site on the banks of the Lohit river has seen a major makeover in the last two years to accommodate the growing number of tourists.
Khandu assured the support of the government in organizing the festival every year to improve the facilities as required depending on the trend of numbers.
“The local people of the area are already benefiting from the tourist visits to the holy place throughout the year. In the long run this festival will boost the tourism economy of the entire state. Let us work together to make this festival a success.” ” They said.
Khandu took to his social media handles to promote the festival urging everyone to visit the ‘amazing Arunachal’ for a ‘lifetime experience’.
Khandu has around 2.58 lakh followers on Twitter.
The virtual event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MP Tapir Gao, Anjaw MLA Dasanglu Pul and Chairman APMD&TC Mohesh Chai along with officers of the Lohit district administration.
Speaking at the launch program earlier, I said that he has been witnessing the festival since his childhood when pilgrims from neighboring Assam used to enter from his native village Sanpura.
He appreciated the efforts of the district administration of Lohat for coming up with an official logo and online registration.
Mein will distribute 25,000 paper bags during the festival to promote a plastic-free Parshuram kund Mela.
Lohit DC Shashvat Saurabh said that the Parshuram Kund Yatra was conducted even during the years which were affected by the Covid restrictions. He said that the number of tourists and pilgrims is expected to reach one and a half lakh this year for which the district administration has made necessary arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims.
The DC added that Dirak Gate in Namsai district, Shantipur Gate in Lower Dibang valley, Digaru in Lohit and more pilgrim facilitation centers at Medo will provide temporary ILP and all other necessary information related to the festival.
