Over use of hireling in Manipur violence UNHRC worried
Imphal: The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has expressed concern over the use of mercenaries in communal clashes in Manipur.
Out of the 175 people killed in the ongoing ethnic violence, the bodies of 96 are still missing and lying in various hospitals in the state.
As of Wednesday, 79 bodies have been claimed by their relatives. This was said by the Vice President of International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), a powerful organization from Manipur, Khuraijam Athouba, at the 54th session of the UNHRC in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday.
“The use of mercenaries in Manipur is a serious concern that requires immediate and coordinated attention,” said Khuraijam Athouba.
“By unequivocally condemning and actively combating the involvement of mercenaries in the region, we can take substantial steps towards upholding basic human rights,” Athouba added.
“By doing this, we can pave the way for peace, stability and justice for all,” said Kh Athouba.
