Guwahati: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has reportedly questioned Superintendent of Police Leena Doley in connection with the death of Assam Police sub-inspector Janmoni Rabha.
It may be noted that Doley who was the SP of Nagaon was named in the FIR by Janmoni Rabha’s mother.
Leena Doley was named as one of the main accused in Janmoni Rabha’s mysterious death.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Runa Neog and Rupjyoti Kalita were also summoned for questioning.
However, the CBI team did not announce the details of the investigation.
The SP who is currently posted in Hailakandi was reportedly questioned at a guest house in Guwahati.
It may be noted that on June 14, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation into the death of Assam Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha.
The decision to transfer the case from CID Assam to the lead investigative agency came after Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh visited the CBI office in New Delhi on June 12.
Earlier, on May 20, Assam DGP GP Singh had officially recommended the transfer of investigation to the CBI in all four cases registered in Assam’s Nagaon and Lakhimpur districts.
The recommendation came after a thorough review of the case and discussions with CID Assam and senior police officers.
Junmoni’s mother had demanded a CBI probe to ensure a transparent investigation.
It may be noted that Sumitra Rabha, mother of Assam Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha, had filed an FIR on May 19 in connection with her daughter’s ‘mysterious’ death.
Sumitra Rabha lodged an FIR at Jakhlabandha police station in Assam’s Nagaon district.
In the FIR, a tearful Sumitra Rabha demanded a thorough probe into the death of her daughter – by Assam Police SI Junmoni Rabha on the morning of May 16.
Sumitra Rabha also claimed that the death of her daughter – Assam Police SI Junmoni Rabha – was a “premeditated murder”.
Sumitra Rabha claimed in the FIR that “I am sure that her (Junmoni Rabha’s) death was not the result of an accident but a pre-planned murder.”
