Williamnagar: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) took out a public rally in Williamnagar town on Saturday demanding a separate Garoland state.
The meeting was held at Rongarengre school playground and was attended by senior members of Nokmas, Sardars, GSMC as well as Garo National Council’s sole MDC and Deputy CEM Nikman Marak and William Nagar area. A large number of pass supporters attended.
Speaking after the meeting, Nikman said that a resolution has been taken between them to move forward for the creation of a separate Garoland state.
“We will demand that a resolution be tabled in the next session of the Assembly to bifurcate the state into Garoland and Khasiland. We have been supported by prominent NGOs of East Garo Hills and we will take our demand from the state. “We will continue till we meet. We will put it before the government to meet our demand,” Nikman said.
In support of this demand, slogans were raised during the rally demanding a separate state for the Garos.
The meeting was held today on April 15 in the afternoon.
