Over SC's decision on 'Nepali immigrant' Ruling SKM protests

GANGTOK: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party organized a peace rally in Gangtok on Monday to protest against the Supreme Court of India’s verdict on income tax exemption, which also included the Nepalese community in Sikkim. Immigrants’ have been declared.

The protest call of the ruling front was answered by SKM’s youth and women’s wing, which was attended by Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba along with Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker Arun Upreti. along with other ministers and party leaders.
Addressing the media after the completion of the rally, SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling said, “Not only us, but all the Nepalese and other communities of Sikkim do not accept the Supreme Court’s observation. The state government is working on the revision petition, we will submit it before February 13.
Khaling added, “In Sikkim we live in communal harmony, a threat to one community is a threat to all. The SKM government is loyal to the people of Sikkim. As long as we are in the state government, in the state. “No community will face any kind of civil violence. This rally is an example that if there is any kind of interference, the SKM party and the state government will take to the streets and fight for rights.”
Blaming the erstwhile SDF government, Khaling said, “During the erstwhile SDF government, various allegations were leveled against Nepalis and other communities living in the state, with the request that the SKM government expunged all these allegations. Will give.”

Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba also participated in this rally. Addressing the media, Subba said, “I have been making Sikkim-centric demands in Parliament when given time. And in this particular issue, I will look at all the technicalities and place them before Parliament.
Opposition parties and citizens are calling the protest a ‘drama’, accusing the ruling front and its Additional Advocate General of failing to defend the ‘immigrant’ tag on the Sikkimese Nepali community in the SC verdict.

On January 31, a joint action committee comprising leaders of various political parties will organize another protest across the state.
