New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera was detained by police after he was kicked off a flight to Raipur on Thursday over his alleged remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party said.
Khera, who has been booked in Assam, was asked by the Delhi Police to disembark from the plane. Congress leaders sat on the tarmac in protest and did not allow him to be taken away without an arrest warrant.
Senior Delhi Police officials later handed over a document to the Assam Police seeking their help in detaining Khera.
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala accompanied Khera to a police station at the airport where CISF was heavily deployed.
A case has been registered against Khera under various sections of the IPC at Haflong police station in Assam for his alleged remarks against the Prime Minister.
Passengers of a Delhi-Raipur flight carrying several Congress leaders to the Chhattisgarh capital were asked to disembark by IndiGo staff on Thursday, with the airline saying they would be put on another flight.
This came after the Congress claimed that its leader was kicked off a flight to Raipur, where he was going to attend a plenary meeting of the party.
After Khera was disembarked, several party leaders disembarked from the plane and staged a dharna on the tarmac.
As drama escalated at a terminal at the domestic airport here, flight staff told Congress leaders that there was a mix-up with cucumber bags. He said that the police is going and will explain the reason.
The flight was delayed due to this problem.
Khera, meanwhile, said he was told earlier that there was a problem with his luggage. “I was told there was a problem with my luggage, even though I only had hand luggage. They told me you can’t fly. Then they said the DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) will meet you. “I have been waiting for a long time. There is no sign of law and order,” he said
Khera was later arrested by the Assam Police, who reached the airport with a First Information Report.
In a recent press conference, it was revealed that Khera had invoked PM Modi’s name while demanding a joint parliamentary inquiry into the Adani-Hindenburg dispute. “If Narasimha Rao can form the JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee), if Atal Bihari Vajpayee can form the JPC, then Narendra Gautam Das…excuse me Damodardas…what is the problem with Modi?” he asked a colleague. said confirming the middle name.
The BJP insists that Khera’s act was deliberate.
Reacting to the incident, the Assam Chief Minister said, “Don’t make any misplaced remarks by courtier Pawan Khera about the Prime Minister’s father, blessed by the highest levels of the Congress, who is a man of humble origin. is entitled and full of contempt against being the Prime Minister of India. India will neither forget nor condone these appalling remarks by Congressmen.
